Dermatologists

Australian doctors with specialist medical training.

Your dermatologist is a highly trained and qualified medical professional. They have completed a rigorous four-year training program to become a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatology (FACD). This means that they have demonstrated a high level of knowledge and skill in the field of dermatology, and have met the rigorous standards set by the Australasian College of Dermatology.

Dermatologists specialise in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of skin diseases and skin cancers for patients of all ages. This includes conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, and skin cancers such as melanoma. They are also experts in the diagnosis and management of disorders affecting hair, nails, and the wet areas of the mouth and genitalia. This might include hair loss, nail fungus, and oral or genital ulcers.

One of the key advantages of seeing a dermatologist is their ability to quickly and accurately diagnose skin conditions. They have a deep understanding of the skin and its various functions, and are able to identify and treat a wide range of conditions. They may also use specialised equipment such as microscopes and ultraviolet lamps to aid in diagnosis.

In addition to diagnosis and treatment, dermatologists also play an important role in preventing skin diseases and skin cancers. They may provide advice on sun protection, recommend skin cancer screenings, and teach patients about the importance of maintaining healthy skin. They can also provide treatment to reduce the risk of skin cancer, such as cryotherapy, topical treatments, and surgery.

Overall, your dermatologist is a highly trained and experienced medical professional who is well-equipped to diagnose, treat, and prevent a wide range of skin conditions. Whether you have a skin condition that is causing you discomfort, or you are concerned about skin cancer, a dermatologist can provide you with the care and support you need.
